The 2019-2020 waterfowl season was one for the books, at least for the specklbelly goose anyway. At DuckDown Guide Service we started off our season like any other here in S E Arkansas, warm days but high anticipation for what was to come. After getting all equipment ready and all blinds and a-frames grassed-up we were ready to roll, little did we know it would be one of the most epic goose seasons any of us had ever been a part of.
After finding their roost and learning what fields were the most heavily feed spots and flight patterns we began setting up for our first week of business. The first 3 days with 3 A-frames, 10 dozen silhouettes and 10 guns it would take longer to set up than to shoot a full limit. In the days to come our momentum built with the geese steadily multiplying so were our groups and the anticipation of some amazing hunts.
Fast forward through the next several days we managed to take a staggering 478 specks from one field with the longest hunt lasting 42 minutes. In those 7 days, I saw things most only dream about and my self being a guide for over 20 yrs I had too witnessed something special. Not only were we in the right spot, having the right equipment played a big part in our success and that is the little jewel I hang around my neck every day for 60 days and that's my Havoc Calls. To have a call that can handle the day to day business that I expect and respond with a truly flawless sound makes my job that much easier and that much more enjoyable. Throughout the season we continued to punish the specks until our season was over and with around 1500 specks taken this season, this was truly a SPECK-TACULAR season and one I won't soon forget.
